turn the lights down low.....

Today in the YogaWorks teacher training we discussed Subtle body, which what we are composed of on an energetic level.  Its so amazing and complex, but the conversation about apana (down or outward moving energy or fluid) was definitely poignant in the context of our current political and environmental climate.  Apana, is for most part waste, by products of  what we need to build prana (energy / life force) so when I step back and consider that the light I just turned on also has apana, I have to think about where it goes and what it affects.  This idea is really more appropriate for a thesis, but as a designer, I have always felt that our physical environments are tremendous personal and cultural reflections and maybe its because they are absorbing our apana.

Maya Lin has always been one of my favorite artists, she is incredible at expanding our perspective of place, and exposing the depth in things that are not visible.  When I have stood in front of the scar that is the Vietnam Memorial the direct side affects of our decisions became obvious in the most painful way.  If you are interested,   I stumbled upon a video on nytimes.com  and some of her current work is presented beautifully  here.

I'm going to turn off that light!
